God Given Thorns
Strange gift indeed-a thorn to prick-
To pierce into the very quick,
To cause perpetual sense of pain.
Strange gift! And yet, ’twas given for gain.
Unwelcome, but it came to stay;
Not could it even be prayed away.
It came to fill its God-given place-
A life-enriching means of grace.
O much-tried saint, with fainting heart,
The thorn with its abiding smart,
With all its wearing, ceaseless pain
Can be thy means of priceless gain.
And so whate’re thy thorn may be,
From God accept it willingly.
But reckon Christ,-His life-His power
To keep, in thy most trying hour.
And sure-thy life will richer grow;
His grace sufficient will bestow.
And in heav’n’s morn thy joy ‘twill be
That by His thorn, He strengthened thee.

God is our refuge, strength and aid,
The Lord our present helper,
Though earth remove he shall not fade,
Our forever fortress sure.
The waters quake and troubled roar,
But true river’s of God;
Mountains shake with swelling implore,
True happiness to laud.
With God the true foundation sure,
Unmoveable God’s high city
The Lord of hosts, All Secure
Shall help in rightful early.
The heathen rage against the king,
Nation’s move to fight;
But God’s command many voices sing
The earth to melt in plight.
As omnipresent God of hosts,
Forever with his bride;
Our refuge all sure-The Holy Ghost
Rest to those who’ve died.
Alas behold God’s work and rhyme,
His judgments to the earth;
War cease until the end of time
The Lord His loins to girth.
Be still, the Lord I Am, and know;
He the righteous exalt
Yes, and every futile foe,
Will bow without any fault.
As omnipresent Lord of hosts,
Forever with His bride;
Our refuge all sure-the Holy Ghost
